Study Abroad
The Department encourages all its students to pursue study abroad, whether in the programs in Spain or in Latin America affiliated with Northwestern University.
We believe that studying abroad and getting intensive language immersion will not only improve your communication skills and enable you to become fully bilingual, but also significantly enrich your knowledge of the culture and the social environments where Spanish is spoken.
All students planning to study abroad for credit are required to:
- Research specific programs and language requirements on the Global Learning website
- Make an appointment with one of the departmental advisers at the time of their application. This initial meeting will help students plan for study abroad and facilitate the Department articulation for Spanish courses upon their return.
- Read the department criteria for study abroad credit transfer.
We also highly recommend that students meet with an adviser in the Global Learning Office to discuss program offerings and the study abroad application process.
