Gabriel Restrepo Parrado holds a Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese from Northwestern University, an MLitt from the University of St Andrews, an M.A. in Philosophy from Universidad de los Andes, and a B.A. in Philosophy and Literature from the same institution. Gabriel specializes in speculative literature from the 20th and 21st centuries, with an emphasis on ecological and political dystopias. His research and teaching emphasize how speculation and dystopian thinking, instead of sinking us into despair about the current crises our world faces today, they open up possibilities of thinking and creating better futures.

As a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Gabriel teaches Spanish 101, as well as courses in contemporary Latin American literature. His teaching approach centers on collaborative knowledge‑building, careful selection of materials suited to diverse learners, and fostering student agency in the learning process. His pedagogy emphasizes inclusivity and recognizes the distinct needs of each student, creating classroom environments grounded in participation, collaboration, and mutual respect.
