Portuguese Language Placement
If you have previous knowledge of Portuguese and would like to continue your studies, you must take the written and oral placement exam. The exam is based on the material covered in the Elementary Portuguese course, PORT 101-1, 2, 3 and the Intermediate Portuguese course, PORT 115-1, 2. The completion of the Intermediate course with a grade of C- or better satisfies the WCAS Language Proficiency requirement.
After students take the online Placement Exam, they will receive an email for a Zoom interview. They will be reassessed during this interview.
No campus interview or exam will take place.

For placement at the 200-level courses, a composition is also required.
There is NO NEED for a Placement test if:
- You have never studied Portuguese before or have had one year or less of high school Portuguese. In this case, you should start from PORT 101-1 (Elementary Portuguese).
- You have never studied Portuguese before, but you are proficient in Spanish (AP4 or equivalent on the Spanish Language Placement Exam). In this case, you should take PORT 115-1 (Portuguese for Spanish Speakers).
